Keeping up with Kim and her growing bump

Since 2007, the life of Kim Kardashian - and the rest of her family - has been well and truly under the microscope thanks to the American reality show Keeping Up with the Kardashians. From her 72-day marriage to Kris Humphries in 2011 to her relationship with rapper Kanye West, Kim has lived her life in the spotlight. And now she and Kanye are expecting their first child together (due in July – in the middle of the new season of The Kardashians), Kim has been scrutinised more closely than ever before.

From her choice of maternity wear to her pregnancy shape, the tabloids and gossip columns have centred in on the eldest Kardashian sister, sometimes with comments that can only be described as malicious. Here, we take a look at Kim’s pregnancy, her blossoming body and general gossip about this celebrity mama-to-be.

Kim’s maternity fashion – love it or loathe it?

Despite saying in the early days of her pregnancy that she “couldn’t wait” to show off her bump, it’s no secret that Ms. Kardashian has had trouble dressing to flatter her new shape. She has been pictured in unflattering voluminous dresses and equally unbecoming horizontal stripes – giving the illusion that she has perhaps gained more weight than she really has. The Daily Mail recently featured photos of a seven-months-pregnant Kim on holiday in Greece wearing a selection of teeny-tiny bikinis and looking healthy, relaxed and at ease. In fact, the Mail stated: “there was no questioning that she looked her best in the simple beachwear”.

The Kardashian cravings

According to Ms Kardashian’s Twitter feed and eonline.com her pregnancy cravings have mainly been for healthy, nutritious foods such as grapefruits, carrots and celery with ranch dressing. It’s not all quite so virtuous though, with Kim recently posting a picture of a takeaway burger meal with the caption “My 1st pregnancy craving...#EnjoyingEveryBite.”

The weight gain everyone’s talking about

Although the Kardashian camp hasn’t officially commented on Kim’s pregnancy weight gain, she has recently been defended by her sister Khloe who said on the Kardashian’s website: “I find it disturbing that society loves to critique a woman's shape no matter how beautiful or happy she may be within herself”. Reports on 5ft 2in Kim’s weight gain suggest that she has put on anywhere between 23 and 70 pounds. After seeing the bikini photos mentioned above, however, we think that the 23lb suggestion is more realistic.

Keeping fit with (the) Kardashian

In the early days of her pregnancy, Kim was reported to be working out up to seven times a week – including sessions with two personal trainers. She was regularly pictured on her way to the gym in her quest to keep pregnancy weight gain to a minimum. According to reports on Yahoo.com, however, Kim was instructed to rest up and cut back on exercising after a miscarriage scare back in March.

It’s been suggested that Kim Kardashian is already in talks to become the face of weight loss organisations and/or a post-natal exercise programme. How true this is remains to be seen...
