A pregnancy fit for a Princess
When Prince William and his wife, the Duchess of Cambridge announced their pregnancy back in December, the whole world rejoiced. Although the Royal Wedding had been a momentous occasion, the future arrival of a Royal baby caused even more of an uproar, making headlines all across the globe.
The Royal couple were forced to announce the pregnancy earlier than perhaps they would have liked, with Kate spending several days in hospital with hyperemesis gravidarum (severe morning sickness). And from that moment on, the media has been heavily focused on Kate, the size of her bump, her choice of maternity wear and – of course – her due date, which is said to be 13th July.
Preparing for pregnancy
According to the Daily Mail, prior to becoming pregnant, the Duchess gave up her favourite pizzas and jelly sweets and instead ate plenty of organic meat, fruit and vegetables (especially Brussels Sprouts and dark green leafy veg which are rich in Folic Acid). She also quit smoking, gave up coffee and took plenty of walks with her pet dog.
The Royal Bump
The size of Kate’s bump and her apparent lack of weight gain have been under constant scrutiny by the media. The Duchess kept her baby bump well hidden under flowing coats for a while, but with the warmer weather came an array of pretty dresses along with a beautifully neat baby bump. It’s no secret that Kate has managed to keep hold of her slim, willowy figure and has the football-shaped bump that most pregnant women covet! Kate’s neat bump is said to be the result of good genes – her mother Carole didn’t show for a long time and was wearing non-maternity clothes right up to the last few weeks of her pregnancies, the US Weekly reports.
The Duchess’ diet and exercise
According to reports in Look magazine, Kate has switched from running and hiking to long walks with her dog and pre-natal yoga sessions to stay fit and healthy during her pregnancy. She was also pictured tobogganing on a skiing holiday in Switzerland at around five months pregnant – although she sensibly opted out of skiing.
Look magazine also said that the Duchess has “got sugar on the brain. Chocolates, biscuits, cake. When she sneaks off to a nearby Starbucks for a decaf coffee, she’ll often pick up a baked good!" This of course is supplemented by a truly healthy diet as Kate is said to love ‘summer food’ including salmon and salads. Hello Magazine has reported that Kate satisfied her cravings for spicy foods with a vegetarian Indian dish cooked by family friends in her home village.
William and Kate are also reported to be looking forward to moving into their new apartment at Kensington Palace after the birth of their baby (once Kate has spent the first six weeks post-birth at her family home in Berkshire). The couple will have Kensington Park on their doorstep as well as the grounds of the Palace to push the pram around – as Princess Diana did with William and Harry – just perfect for working off any baby weight!
